IR Swift Soundfield
The Connevans IR Swift is a Soundfield system for use in classrooms. The system enables all stuents in a classroom to hear the teacher’s voice equally well, wherever they are seated and in whichever direction the teacher is facing.

The IR Swift consists of a flat panel speaker and amplifier along with a sensitive Infra-red receiver. The teacher wears a lightweight Infra-red microphone; their voice is then amplified to an even level throughout the classroom.
Design Method were asked to help value engineer the IR Swift sounfield system. The re-design dramatically reduced the cost to manufacture the product, through a combination of reduced component count, design simplification and overall size reduction.
The IR Swift is perceived as a quality product in the marketplace and it was important that any re-design did not affect the overall look and feel of the product. Design Method director Dave Faulkner was responsible for the original design of the product, which helped enormously with understanding the unique technical requirements of the design.
